INTERVIEW! Take the time to meet with 3 Realtors. It is important to find someone that you feel will be comfortable to work with. Remember, you are on a team with your Realtor to get your home sold. Make it a good team member. No one wants to work with someone they don’t get along with.
SET GOALS! A good Realtor should interview you as well. In my meetings with potential clients, I ask and listen. Too many agents spend the time telling how good they are at what they do instead of asking the Client what her goals and expectations are. A good Realtor will place his focus on meeting those goals and expectations instead of focusing on making a paycheck.
STAY GROUNDED! Be wary of someone who promises you the moon. Review the information in the market analysis (CMA) once it is presented to you. The CMA should provide evidence for properly pricing your home. If someone promises to sell your home at a price that isn’t reasonable just to get your business – don’t do it! No amount of servicing or marketing will sell a listing if it is overpriced. Besides, it has to appraise anyway.
COMMUNICATE! Stay involved in your real estate transaction. Ask your Realtor to stay in touch on a weekly basis until you get to the closing table. This is your home – be part of the process.
